As of today, Squarespace supports 1 to 1.4 million websites. In August 2017, Shopify announced that it supports 500,000 stores. SQUARESPACE
Number of websites: 1 to 1.4 million (estimated)
Squarespace has not revealed the exact number of websites that it supports. On its website, Squarespace claimed that it “powers millions of websites across hundreds of industries.” Squarespace’s profile on Forbes stated that it has “more than 1 million customers.” An article published by Entrepreneur in 2016 stated that Squarespace “supports more than 1 million websites for businesses, entrepreneurs, creatives, and individuals.” During an interview with Independent.ie in April 2017, Squarespace founder and CEO Anthony Casalena said that his company has “over a million paid customers.”
Only an article published by Business Insider in 2012 mentioned an exact figure. The article stated that Squarespace has “tens of thousands of users who have created 1.4 million websites.”
SHOPIFY
Number of stores: Over 500,000
In August 2017, Shopify announced that it now “powers more than 500,000 businesses in 175 countries around the world.” The company also revealed other statistics in the same press release. The number of merchants has increased annually at an average rate of 74% since 2012, and they have achieved more than $40 billion in sales. There are more than 1.2 million people actively using Shopify’s backend platform. Shopify merchants have generated sales of over $100,000 per minute during Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2016.
MAILCHIMP
Number of customers: Over 14 million
An article posted on MailChimp’s blog in December 2016 stated that the company has “more than 14 million users around the world.” The article also mentioned that in 2016, the company revamped its homepage, experimented with its own online store, and sent out more than 200 million marketing emails. MailChimp has not revealed the number of customers since then. However, an article published by Forbes in October 2017 mentioned that MailChimp has “more than 14 million users” and generated a revenue of around $400 million in 2016.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, only Shopify and MailChimp have officially revealed usage details for their services. The number of websites that Squarespace supports was estimated based on several credible sources that have been published online.
