I need information for companies that meet the following criteria: they are U.S. based, private, venture capital backed (have raised money from angel investors or VCs), and are still active (in business). For these companies, I’d like to get a count (how many are out there) and total valuation. Valuation should indicate what is their total value (and not how many rounds of capital they have raised). Please deliver the valuation number in billions of US dollars. If you have a breakdown of count per valuation group / tier that would be great.

Unfortunately, there is no pre-compiled resource in the public domain that fully answers your question, and compiling that level of information - thousands of companies exist within these parameters - is beyond the scope of a single Wonder request. However, we've used the available data to pull together key findings for U.S. based, private, venture capital-backed companies. We have located 10 such companies in a grouping from $1 million to $22 million in revenue. As privately held companies, valuation information was not publicly available.

Below you'll find an outline of our research methodology to better understand why the information you've requested is publicly unavailable, as well as a deep dive into our findings.

METHODOLOGY

We performed an extensive search of the public domain including publicly available market research reports, news articles, and industry publications/blogs. We were able to locate reports on the topic of valuation of private U.S. companies, but these sources are not publicly available. We have been able to identify active companies that recieve VC backing, the stage of the venture, revenue, and company location, but only on an individual basis.

NOTE: Select links, like Pitchbook, offer paid access to valuation information for each company.
