National and Regional Blood Centers Part 3

Our research indicates that almost all blood centers on the list provided in our assigned spreadsheet are regional. However, a few of these regional centers have a wider geographical reach in terms of service delivery. We have categorized the blood centers in rows 2-57, column D of the attached spreadsheet.

  • From the list of 56 blood centers provided in our assigned spreadsheet, we have been able to identify Vitalant as a national center with collection sites across 40 states in the US.

In order to identify the national and regional blood centers in the spreadsheet provided, we searched through the official websites and LinkedIn pages of each center on the list. Our focus was on locating information relating to the geographical regions covered by these centers. All centers whose operations and collection sites are confined to one region, or a few states, cities, or counties, were categorized as "regional". Blood centers that have physical locations across the nation where people can visit to donate blood were categorized as "national". Only one center fit our criteria from the list examined. The three centers we found which have a wider reach in terms of service delivery do not have collection points nationwide, and so we did not categorize them as national centers. However, these three regional centers also supply blood to national centers, hospitals, and physicians.
