Your Research Team Applied the Following Strategy:
While we were able to determine the percentage of unfilled top tech occupation jobs in the US, we were not able to establish the percentage rates for each unfilled job category except for developer jobs (including software and web).
We commenced our research to determine the percentage rates for each unfilled top tech jobs in the US by scanning through industry surveys detailing employment statistics on reputable databases that include the Bureau of Labour Statistics, ITAA, Cyberstates, etc. Unfortunately, we were not able to obtain any relevant data from these sources. The only relevant information that was available from these sources related to the top jobs in terms of the number of jobs currently available while the unfilled rate was not available either category wise or overall.
Next, we extended our research through authoritative market research consultancy databases such as Deloitte, BCG, McKinsey, PWC, etc. These sources too provided the overall data for the tech industry and some other parameters for individual categories which did not include the unfilled rate percentage for the top tech jobs in the US.
We the decided to search for relevant information through media outlets and business-related databases such as Techcrunch, Tech Radar, ZD Net, Smallbiztrends, Forbes, Fortune, etc. Unfortunately, our search was not fruitful. This strategy only enabled us to obtain one article published by Forbes that detailed the unfilled percentage rate for all developer jobs in the US. However, no other data was available for the other categories.
We decided to broaden the parameters of our research by focusing attention on major job search portals such as Glassdoor, Indeed, LinkedIn, etc. We had hoped that this strategy would help us find out the number of vacancies for each job available in these major job search portals and then we would add them up to obtain the number of unfilled jobs at an approximate level. Unfortunately, being such popular job roles, there were thousands of vacancies listed in these databases making it impossible to determine how many jobs were replicated in all the databases. As the duplicates could not be identified in our research, we concluded that adding number of vacancies available in each position would not present a true indication of unfilled job positions.
We decided to change gears and search for relevant data through publications released by major tech companies such as IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Cognizant, etc. Unfortunately, while some of these companies provided the number of job recruitment that they had made in a certain fiscal year, the data was not organized with the relevant level of designation categories or job profiles. Therefore, it was not possible to get an idea of what percentage of unfilled positions either of the companies filled every year in terms of specific roles.
As a last resort, we decided to search for articles, interviews and blogs published by C-level executives of major tech companies as well as opinions from industry experts and tech advisors. We used databases such as LinkedIn and Bloomerg to find these professionals and then searched for any reports that had been published by them detailing any relevant data regarding unfilled rates of top tech jobs in the US. Unfortunately, the search did not yield any fruits. Most of the insights that we were able to gather from these professionals were limited to the overall industry, rather than individual roles.
