What 50 companies have the largest cash balances of the S&P 500?
Cash holdings amongst U.S. companies are at an all-time high, with an estimated $1.9 trn dollars currently on companies' balance sheets, up from $1.45 trn in 2016. S&P 500 companies have also shown a trend towards high cash balances.
FINDINGS
I have compiled a list of the 50 companies with the largest cash balances on the S&P500 in this spreadsheet, based on this article from Bloomberg. I verified the Bloomberg article by comparing it to similar articles (although none of these had a full 50 companies).
CONCLUSION
S&P 500 companies have plenty of cash available to purchase additional businesses if they so chose.
